I've seen FAR too many engineers and machinist not properly zero out their calipers, or, use no-calibrated calipers in the aerospace field. It happens way too often, and, it's very easy to not use the equipment correctly. What I love about PlastiGage is the fact that it is what it is. You really can't screw up the measurement. As for zeroing out calipers (digital especially), it's imperitive to clean the faces of the calipers prior to taking measurements. It's amazing to see how dirty tools can severely throw off critical dimensions. I'm not saying you are wrong or right. Just throwing out the positive side to using Plastigage. It measures the actual real gaps in an assembled/torqued condition. This, I like. IMHO/GrainofSalt/PieceandLove/Allah(or not).
